LIRC trouble

Hy folks smile

I have been playing with lirc for a while but just cann't get it right,a and i'm pretty convinced that the problem is in me...now,this is the situation:i have a Terratec Cinergy HT PCI card which works like a charm but remote on it is not suported on linux. So,i have get the USB IR controller from 2400i DT RT. lsusb shows it is

Bus 004 Device 002: ID 0419:0001 Samsung Info. Systems America, Inc. IrDA Remote Controller

Now i have read everything on wiki about lirc,i have put /usr/share/lirc/remotes/samsung/lircd.conf.samsung to /etc/lircd.conf, loaded mceusb2 module on start and put lircd in rc.conf to start and it all starts but when i start irw and try to push any buttons on remote-nothing happens. Does anyone have an idea what am i doing wrong?

For some tasks, the CLI is quicker. That's not elitism nor arrogance, that's just a fact of life.

Re: LIRC trouble

I don't think the mceusb2 driver is the correct one. According to the USB ID, the modules hid-samsung and/or usbhid are suitable and should be loaded instead. There is some more information in the lircd.conf.samsung file from the lirc-0.8.5 tarball:

# Brand: Terratec                          (Samsung Info. Systems America, Inc.)
# Model: Fernbedienung Set incl. USB Bulk  (IrDA Remote Controller, USB-ID 0419:0001)
#        (grey handset)
#
#
# Devices being controlled by this remote:
#       - Stand-alone remote
#       - Terratec DVB devices (please add approved ones)
#
#
# LIRC  version: >= 0.8.3
# LIRC  driver:  Samsung
# LIRCD_OPTS="-H samsung -d /dev/hiddevX"
#
# Linux version: >= 2.6.25
# Kernel config: CONFIG_USB_HIDDEV=y|m
#                USB controllers, ...

Maybe this helps.

Re: LIRC trouble

Check /proc/bus/input/devices file. Your IR receiver should be listed in there somewhere. You can also look at the dmesg output when you load the drivers, maybe there are some messages about the IR device being detected?

For some tasks, the CLI is quicker. That's not elitism nor arrogance, that's just a fact of life.

Re: LIRC trouble

Here it is:

samsung 0003:0419:0001.0001: fixing up Samsung IrDA report descriptor
samsung 0003:0419:0001.0001: hiddev1,hidraw0: USB HID v1.00 Keyboard [Cypress Sem Cypress USB Mouse] on usb-0000:00:1a.2-2/input0

Don't know why it reports an USB mouse though...
Edit /etc/conf.d/lircd and set the options as follows

LIRC_DEVICE="/dev/hiddev1"
LIRC_DRIVER="samsung"

and restart lircd. Hopefully irw will now report some IR key events.
