any interest in daily built e17 cvs snapshots?

Hi i have created a system for myself in which i build, mostly daily, a bleeding edge version of e17. I do not wish to compete with the rensel repository, I only want to find out if there is any interest, as i build them anyway for private use. If there is enough interest i can create an unofficial repository.

btw I create the following packages:

ecore-CVS_20050326-1.pkg.tar.gz
epeg-CVS_20050326-1.pkg.tar.gz
e-CVS_20050326-1.pkg.tar.gz
epsilon-CVS_20050326-1.pkg.tar.gz
edb-CVS_20050326-1.pkg.tar.gz
erss-CVS_20050326-1.pkg.tar.gz
edje-CVS_20050326-1.pkg.tar.gz
esmart-CVS_20050326-1.pkg.tar.gz
eet-CVS_20050326-1.pkg.tar.gz
etox-CVS_20050326-1.pkg.tar.gz
elicit-CVS_20050326-1.pkg.tar.gz
e_utils-CVS_20050326-1.pkg.tar.gz
embryo-CVS_20050326-1.pkg.tar.gz
evas-CVS_20050326-1.pkg.tar.gz
emotion-CVS_20050326-1.pkg.tar.gz
evidence-CVS_20050326-1.pkg.tar.gz
engage-CVS_20050326-1.pkg.tar.gz
ewl-CVS_20050326-1.pkg.tar.gz
engrave-CVS_20050326-1.pkg.tar.gz
examine-CVS_20050326-1.pkg.tar.gz
entice-CVS_20050326-1.pkg.tar.gz
iconbar-CVS_20050326-1.pkg.tar.gz
entrance-CVS_20050326-1.pkg.tar.gz
imlib2-CVS_20050326-1.pkg.tar.gz
envision-CVS_20050326-1.pkg.tar.gz
imlib2_loaders-CVS_20050326-1.pkg.tar.gz

Best regards Nick.

MillTek wrote:

On a local directory on my pc :-p. Right now I am just trying to find out how interested people are, and if it will be an addition to AL. If so i will create a repo for it... I only have to figure out how to create one... i guess having an ftp server and running syncgen or something is enough. One thing I believe to be important is rensel's view on this (approval I guess) as I do not wish to compete with his repo in any way.

And of course if anyone has a suggestion of a packages that should be added. I don't really care about a pkg's development state for inclusion btw, for example I built envision for the first time yesterday and it is far from finished.

Anyhow, I am going to try to get my uur (untrusted user repo :-) ) running, and I'll let you know how to reach it once it is done

A little update, I have the repo running:

[nickm]
ftp://80.126.101.128/arch

soon ftp://nickm.xs4all.nl/arch should be available too

also note, I have always used these pkgs for myself if you suspect there to be a dependency problem or anything packaging related let me know. If you find a bug report it on www.enightenment.org. This is bleeding edge cvs and bugs are to be expected. also not all packages always compile.eg at this very moment e won't compile and a few days ago engage was broken (not the module version however).
add my repo to pacman and do a pacman -Sy efl to get all libraries in the efl (see enlightenment.org for details) and a pacman -S e17 to get all other stuff from my repo. all files will be installed to /opt/e17, so add /opt/e17/bin to your path and /opt/e17/lib to /etc/ld.so.conf.
A LITTLE DISCLAIMER: I garantee that I have not changed anything to the code, so if the source contains anything harmfull do not blame me as i am not responsible. Also note that this is NOT a TRUSTED USER REPO approved by anyone other then myself.

Re: any interest in daily built e17 cvs snapshots?

There are already daily snapshots of e17, in the TUR.

ftp.archlinux.org/tur/rensel

Take a look at the wiki if you want to know how to use it.

Are you sure they are daily built ?? I tried them once and I got the impression they were a lot older than my packages.

Re: any interest in daily built e17 cvs snapshots?

Well, Nickm is right - I don't build my packages daily, just once every 15 days (or once a month, if there are no important changes). As my repository is a TUR, I suppose many users keep it in their pacman.conf, and I don't think many people would like to upgrade all the EFL and all the apps every time they do a pacman -Syu. I don't even rebuild all the packages: i follow CIA and I rebuild only those whose source has been modified. The target of my packages are people who just want, sometimes, to be kept up-to-date about the progress made by E17.

Nevertheless, I support Nickm's UUR project. It's obvious that his target is different, his packages are for those who want to stay constantly up-to-date, like wannabe E developers. I would just advise him to make use of my PKGBUILDs, as I've already done a lot of work on dependencies etc.

Re: any interest in daily built e17 cvs snapshots?

I would be very interested in using this repository. I'm not in my arch machine right now, so I can't really test it. But ASAP I'm gonna take a look
at it.

Thanks

Yes rensel, it would be great if I could have your PKGBUILD's. Then I can see how you packaged entrance for example, as I have had quite some issues with it.

All e17 packages that were in rensel repo and not in mine have been added, and also dependencies have copied from his pkgbuilds. It should be a lot better now.

Yes it is usable, though it seems to crash now and then sometimes, I've ran it without any problem for several days. Also keep an eye on http://lude.net/edocs/, the unofficial documentation. It is usually quite up to date.
The only disturbing thing about e17 is that there are almost no eapp files included by default.
perhaps I should include some additional eapp files in my builds and extend the menu a bit. Another thing you should try is load engage instead of ibar, as it is a wonderfull dockapp and a lot more.
For that do the following, all steps only required once:
load the engage module:
open a terminal and run /opt/e17/bin/enlightenment_remote -module-load /opt/e17/lib/engage/module.so
then disable ibar:
left click on the desktop | modules | ibar | toggle enable
populate ~/.e/e/application/engage/.order with for example

[nick@Nick ~]$ cat .e/e/applications/engage/.order
kontact.eapp
azureus.eapp
gimp.eapp
firefox.eapp
enterminus.eapp
xmms.eapp
evidence.eapp
konqueror.eapp
pan.eapp
gtick.eapp

all eapp files should be in ~/.e/e/applications/all/ and can be made using  e_util_eapp_edit from the e_util package.
After that enable engage in the same way as you disabled ibar:
left click on the desktop | modules | engage | toggle enable

You can create a wallpaper with e17setroot, it will set it as a background after it creates it, and it stores your background file somewhere in your ~/.e tree. After that you can use emblem to switch/choose any wallpaper you created in that way.

except for the engage module you can load several others too, they can be found in /opt/e17/lib/enlightenment/modules and most aren't loaded by default. if a module is not loaded it will not be listed in the e17 menu.

Hope this helps a lot of people

####
EDIT:
I added the icons suggested on http://aje.codewordt.co.uk/ from one of the devs of e17. I do not know if you have to delete your ~/.e before they are picked up, anyway just reinstall e for it to work.

It is now :-).
i downloaded the old version from his site, decompiled it (edje_decc) and recompiled it with ejde_cc.
get it here: ftp://nickm.xs4all.nl/arch/wallpapers/m … source.edj
put it in your ~/.e/e/backgrounds and run emblem to set it as a background (click the thumbnail, and than click the large preview). btw I think you should rename it to a name that makes sence.

Well, I just tried e17, it's great. The only problem is the lack of shortcut keys. I mean, I'm an evilwm user. I need to be able to open a terminal using Ctrl+Alt+Enter or something similar. tongue

Re: any interest in daily built e17 cvs snapshots?

I'm just having a play with it, judging by CPU usage when I use the layered sky background it's using software for rendering, is there a setting somewhere I can change? My video card should handle this no worries and the nvidia driver is loaded properly. Any tips would be greatly appreciated smile

Edit: I scored almost 4 times higher in the evas_gl_x11_test over the software one..

Well as far as I know gl rendering isn't considered stable enough yet. I'll have to search how to start it gl enabled, i'll get back on it. here are my evas test results my cpu is a P4 2.8 Ghz HT and an older nvidia gts card.

[nick@Nick gant_engage-0.0.6]$ evas_gl_x11_test
GL: create info...
GL: setup info...
GL: gl window setup done.

It would be great to have gl enabled :-)

Re: any interest in daily built e17 cvs snapshots?

To get GL acceleration in E17 atm the only thing you can do is to edit its source by replacing "software" with "gl" - sed should do the work.
When they become stable enough, the developers will probably include GL, cairo, maybe even fb rendering as an option-.

I'd definitely go some OpenGL rendering...

Nickm: Do you actually use xmms2/euphoria? I cannot for the life of me make it work but I'm not downloading and installing bitkeeper just to get the source and compile it myself. I've created a post on it here (http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … highlight=), any help would be great smile

Good job on the e17 packages, I installed it to have a go but still haven't changed my .xinitrc. It's fun to theme it!

maybe the e16 one works... did you tryed it?

CyberTron, do you have the PKGBUILDs of the 16 CVS version?? i been looking to make it, but if i can save that part, it would be nice...

I have the same problem. I hooked up to the nickm repo. Setup the pacman for e17, but most packages were "warning:fail to get filesize ...."

Two packages were downloaded.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
