I have installed projectm-libvisual-alsa and am presented with a sea of errors:
$ projectM-libvisual-alsa
libvisual CRITICAL: projectM-libvisual-alsa: get_input_plugin(): assertion `input->plugin != NULL' failed
libvisual CRITICAL: projectM-libvisual-alsa: visual_input_run(): The input plugin is not loaded correctly.
libvisual CRITICAL: projectM-libvisual-alsa: visual_plugin_get_eventqueue(): assertion `plugin != NULL' failed
^C
A black window appears with the above errors spat out in a loop. I have checked my capture source in alsamixer, which is set to Capture (the only selectable source).
Any ideas?

I have the exact same problem. Does it work right for anyone?

I thought I'd have another try at this but the projectm-libvisual-alsa package throws this cmake error:
projectM not detected! Please install the projectM module or build from top level projectM source directory
Here is the build log. Any ideas?

Tried for two years and still not working...

So, I just tried again. Same thing as for the OP, when terminated it tells me 'foo bar at 1520FPS', even though nothing is rendered.
Have anyone, ever, got this to actually run?

Did you try installing libvisual-plugins? Did you encounter any of the compile errors I got?

Yeah. I've compiled every single dependency by hand (it took me 5h... I just so dont like cmake)
Yeah.
I've compiled every single dependency manually several times with different
options enabled.
Either it segfaults, gives me the black screen with nothing being rendered (now
at > 2000FPS though!!) or just refuses to start at all.
