After numerous unsuccesful attempts. I'd like to ask if anyone was succesful to install the drivers for the Brother HL-3040CN Coler led laserprinter.
The printer is used as a network printer and not directly (usb) attached. Printing using Windows XP and eeebuntu works fine. A ping to the ip address of the printer is succesful.
I consulted http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bs … #HL-3040CN.
Extracted the rpm package with rpmextract.sh
modified cupswrapperhl3040cn to use /etc/rc.d
and copied ~/usr to /usr
had cups installed and configured the printer with Find New Printers and selected the driver.
A print attempt resulted in the following error_log

The data light on the printer is lit up but the printer stays idle.
The cups help pages are pretty uselss if printing doesn't work.
So I have the following questions:
1) is my installation procedure in principle correct?
2) for a network printer is cups the best approach or is there another method?
thanks for helpful hints from fellow hl3040cn users

What network address setup are you using in CUPS? It should be something like: "socket://192.168.0.104:9100" or whatever 192 address you have assigned from your router.
