I upgrade arch to kernel-2.6.34 and xorg-server-1.8. Then I found I have problems playing MP3s. It's playing too fast (10% faster than normal) and sometimes chugs. I've tried audacious and mpg123. Both of them have the problem. So what's the problem and how can I fix it?

Confirmed. I humorously mistook this for corrupted mp3s and nearly soiled myself when every subsequent rip had the same problem. Random chugging/stuttering, sometimes fast forwarding for no reason. One of the stranger kernel upgrade issues.

I'm sure there is something wrong with the new kernel, but I have no idea to solve it.

Not just music, everything is faster. Videos, flash... When using Xine backend, it results in pauses in sound play, if using gstreamer, it will play faster with high pitched voice.
Im suspecting new kernel as well, possibly some problem with timing.

I've tried kernel26-rc-2.6.35 and kernel26-ice-2.6.34 from aur, yet cannot solve the problem.

The stuttering seems to directly correspond to CPU usage. ie when switching tabs in my browser, the music will chug but calm down when I stay on a page. Madness.

Now I downgrade to kernel-2.6.33 and the problem is no longer exists. It may be a bug in the new kernel.

Thanks, i will have to downgrade as well.

Few more of these and I'll be finally ready to leave bleeding-edge distro

FYI - [solved by downgrade] is not solved. :) You can't stay on .33 forever, unless you're going to stop using Arch.
Also, I can't reproduce the issue here - tested with mpg123, running the current 2.6.34 kernel package on x86_64. Are you on x86_64 or i686?

From one of the linked threads:
I've solved compiling the kernel 2.6.35-rc1 from AUR...
Thats quite the opposite way of downgrading I would give it a go.
edit: naah, nevermind, you tried already. still if there are more people with the same problem, try to find out more and file a bug. or you will be stuck on 2.6.33 forever...

It's on x86_64 with AMD on MB with SB700 chipset - possible bug recognized in other thread I posted here.

I've got ATI Radeon Xpress 200 built-in graphics on i686 and I still have the same problem. "Solved" it by downgrading. Don't want to waste several hours compiling the new kernel on this machine, so I'll wait patiently until an upgrade fixes it.

Just wanted to update that the newest kernel update (2.6.34.1-1) fixes the problem for me.
