I updated 2 days ago, and since then I've had problems with my setup.
I run gnome with compiz, and there's some problem with the refreshing of apps.
In example, when I browse something in chromium, the web page refreshes after a few seconds, or only when I use some compiz feature (cube/ alt+tab etc..). This affects ALL programs, shell, pidgin, office etc.. (movies seem to work fine).
When I drop to a shell with ctrl+alt+f1, the shell works fine.
I have a samsung netbook, so I have an intel gma 950 i believe, with framebuffer enabled in my kernel.

I have the exact same problem. I have an HP 6220 with Intel graphics. I guess it's related to the X update but I don't know.
Please share if you find out what is causing it.

It also doesnt matter wether I have compiz on or off, the problem still occurs.
I'm running
X.Org X Server 1.8.1.902 (1.8.2 RC 2)

i'm having the same problem. intel graphics: gl40 express chipset, gma 4500m.
i've removed the i915.modeset=1 option from my grub boot line to see if that helps. After a couple hours, things *seem* back to normal.

I don't have that line in my boot line but I still have the problem.

I am having this problem also, but only when compiz is enabled. I switched to metacity using fusion-icon and all is working fine. I'm sure it's a problem with compiz.
I'm on an MSI Wind U100 with intel 945GME express graphics.
EDIT: Actually my problem seems to be related to Xorg 1.8 and was fixed by enabling indirect rendering in compiz.

I agree.
In startup applications I previously used the command "fusion-icon"
Now I use "compiz --replace ccp --sm-disable --indirect-rendering" and everything works just fine.
