W/o the errors it may be difficult to say what happened. Did you try again after a reboot?
tty is the console; press Alt+F7 to go to tty7.

Edit: OK.

Ok, now packman can't find any packages, I thought the kernel should mirror would actually work. I'll try changing the mirror and see what happens. Anyone recommend something special?

Open a new post or change the title of this one to reflect the current problem.

Post the output of

pacman -Q pacman

Can you ping things, do you have a working network?

And it's pacman, not packman.

Re: Pacman can't find core.db.tar.gz -- something about resolver failure

Oh, I was thinking 'pack' as in package. The network works, at least it does on the machine, and both this and the future Arch are connected to the same router. The network configuration process runs fine too. Before I can try pinging or printing outputs I need a way to leave this tty7 console.

Edit: Wait no, alt 1 did it. Printing outputs and whatnot. I'll be right back

Ok, pacman -Q pacman prints 3.3.3-5, I'm guessing this is the version? Ping doesn't work, that would explain the errors, how do I set the network up so it works?

I don't think I get it - did you install Arch? Are you running a configured Arch? If so, just Alt+F1 to switch to terminal number 1. This works for other numbers too.

Re: Pacman can't find core.db.tar.gz -- something about resolver failure

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beginners'_Guide#Part_II:_Configure_.26_Update_the_New_Arch_Linux_base_system
See that note over there (violet box). It reads:
"Note: Virtual consoles 1-6 are available. You may switch between them with ALT+F1...F6"

Please follow the wiki. It makes no sense for me to copy things from the wiki and post them here.
