upgrade kernel 2.6.33.4-1 -> 2.6.34.1.-1 - huger perfromance drop

Hi all,

I experience a massive performance drop when updating my kernel to version 2.6.34. glxgears drops from around 1000 fps (kernel 2.6.33) to around 100-200 (2.6.34) ... I know it's not a proper benchmark but it shows the effect. Even typing in a terminal window lags. I am using the open source ati driver (xf86-video-ati 6.13.1-1) on an ASUS W3N notebook with a Mobility Radeon Card R350. I would provide more details but don't know where to start looking for the problem. All I can say is that everything works perfectly smooth with 2.6.33. Any suggestions where to start investigating the problem would be awesome

That ain't good. Are you sure no app is eating up cpu cycles? Maybe anti-aliasing is taking it's toll.

Disable KMS if you're using it.

@falconindy: Is there a known problem with KMS and ATI in kernel 2.6.34 cause I use it with the 2.6.33 kernel and it works flawlessly?

@karol: checked that but nope.. apps are not the problem.
