Hey there,
I use a Thinkpad T61, which has no built-in webcam, and will soon need a USB webcam for regular Skype use; I don't need any bells or whistles, really just something simple and small -- with a built-in microphone -- and was wondering if anyone could offer any advice on what to buy.
Thanks for any help.

not all webcams are supported.
check these sites out:

the logitech c200 looks pretty cheap with mic and linux support. http://www.logitech.com/en-au/webcam-co … vices/5865
I haven't used it.. but it seems to be supported. go to the logitech site and check out webcams with inbuilt microphones, find one that you like and see if it is supported.

I can speak from experience that this camera w/ mic works out of the box: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001M5 … ss_product
All I had to do was plug it in. It's obviously not high quality, but it gets the job done.
Education is favorable to liberty. Freedom can exist only in a society of knowledge. Without learning, men are incapable of knowing their rights, and where learning is confined to a few people, liberty can be neither equal nor universal.

I'll just add my experience. The Hercules webcam I bought has support in Skype for Arch Linux 64 for both microphone and video.
