I have this old laptop that id like to get working again as something to use at my other home.
Its a Dell Inspiron 1100, Old as hell, slow as hell so first thing that came to mind was Arch.
ive gotten through the setup up until i got to getting X working, and in the beginners guide it tells me to use xf86-video-intel-legacy. Which apparently isnt in the repo's anymore. Ive tried vesa and intel, both have failed. X acts like it wants to start but i get a blank black screen with nothing on it.
Anyone know what i can do to at least get X working properly?
Im using Xorg-server 1.8.1.902 with kernel 2.6.34-ARCH i686

Maybe it's just a misconfiguration.
Post your configs: rc.conf, xorg.conf if you have any (you don't need it w/ xorg 1.8), udev rules, .xinitrc, 'pacman -Qs xf86'.
Maybe you can make it work w/ intel drivers, but it will crash from time to time because your card is not supported.

A little tinkering when your not mad goes a long ways i guess..
I removed the vesa driver, still didnt work. then i realised i was still logged in as root and then i logged in as my regular user and it worked fine with intel.
i feel stupid now. just a stupid mistake i overlooked

That's what I thought.
If you're all set, just mark the thread [solved].
