[Solved] System Fails to Boot correctly after losing power

After the battery died I let my laptop sit till morning.
Come this morning I head into work and plug in and boot my laptop,

I get to the default login screen but something is horribly wrong.
I notice that I don't have a hostname or rather the hostname presented is (none).

I try to use a usb stick of the install img to try and recover the system I chroot into my current install and run mkinitcpio -p kernel26.'
I also make sure that the /etc/issue does not clear the boot messages.

I was hopeful that rebuilding the image would correct my problem but it doesn't.

The last line of the boot message is:

INIT: Entering runlevel: 3

But I never see the rest of the usual arch boot process.

It seems after this that / has been mounted as read only but in mount claims it is rw.

Does anyone have any idea as to what the problem is?

Thanks

Edit: After browsing the forums more I discovered that my intiscripts might have been corrupted.
chrooted in and installed from the pacman cache .... worked like a charm

Booted up and posting this from my amazing archlinux install.
