Hi all,
i just finished to install a new arch on my brand new dell latitude 5510
I don't know why i'm not able to make the kb properly working.
i'm using an italian layout (keymap = it).
I tried to set the latitude layout from settings, but i'm not able to make the alt-gr combination in the konsole!!
What's happening??
Thanks in advance!

You mean in the KDE terminal emulator or the console / tty: black screen with (usually) white letters?

How did you set it up?

thanks for teh reply!
in tty, it works properly!
actually only konsole and some program (i.e i'm not able to write the mail in the registration form of dropbox client).
I tried ooffice writer and it doesn't work, same for firefox.
can it be something related to gtk appl?
moreover, i'm using kdemod, and I'm posting on their forum asking why i was not able to install any localization:
pacman -Ss kdemod-kde-l10n gives no results
I don't if this could be a related problem.

update: i just understood the localization issue. i don't think it's related. sorry.
special characters issue is still there
thanks in advance

thanks, but actually i uninstalled the whole kdemod and i installed kde (classic) from arch repositories. The problem is still there: the '@' char and others are not available in konsole, firefox, writer etc
I cannot understand why! i tried a live distro of ubuntu, and there's no problem!!! what the problem with arch-kde????
Thanks in advance

What are you using to set the keyboard layout in X? Have you tried setxkbmap?
setxkbmap it

Hi, thanks for the suggestion.
I set keymap = it in the rc.conf file, i set italian layout (and later latitude series layout) in system settings of kde and i also checked in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf: Option "XkbLayout" "it"
The problem is not related to the mapping, i guess, but to some program (or the way "some" program are configured by system - NOT by me): i.e konsole, firefox, writer and others.
Too many problems with a -- fresh installation --.
very weird! I just followed the (very consolidated) wiki page!! There should be some bug somewhere
before leaving arch, I'll try gnome despite KDE...
As i stated above ubuntu live cd doesn't have any problem
I hope someone can provide more suggestions
Thanks again

Guys, it's neither a KDE problem! installed GNOME: same problem!!!!
are you able to make a new installation properly working?
I don't know what to do!!
tty works then it's not a mapping problem!
please give me feedback
Thanks

I don't know what changed, but i installed the gnome-extra package and after a little bit, it seemed to work.
I think KDE has something wrong in settings...! i really don't know!
Thanks anyway!

Hi, have you tried setting the input.xkb.layout variable in /etc/hal/ fdi/policies/10-keymap.fdi ?
