[SOLVED] How to clean your homedirs dotfiles?

Hello everybody,

I've been busy cleaning up my system and my mailbox. Everything has a nice structure and looks very clean. The only problem I still have,
is that my homedir is cluttered with dotfiles. I would like to get rid of this, if that's possible and put all my rc files in
~/.config.

I recently became aware that there is a standard in the XDG_BASEDIR (found at http://standards.freedesktop.org/basedi … c-0.6.html) that gives a good solution to this problem.
Not all applications follow this standard however, so my ~/.config has some files, other dotfiles remain in ~/.

And yet, I saw somewhere on the internet that some people keep a clean homedir anyway. How would I go about doing this and is it possible to completely do this?

Programs that follow the forementioned standard can be used without a problem.
Could this be done with other applications by using the -c switch (if there is one) and creating an alias in ~/.zshrc?
And what about apps that don't have the -c switch?

This might be what you're looking for

aur/libetc 0.4-2 |18|
    Automatically translate ~/.* to ~/.config/*

I didn't know about that one, it was an interesting read. Thanks for the info.
It does not seem possible to remove all dotfiles, but the majority of the clutter should be removed by this.
I will try it out and let you know how it works for me.

Do a search on the forum for libetc as there has been some discussion of it before.

You are correct. It seems to be a valid solution, so this topic can be closed.
Thanks for the info.

Of course, you needed to know the app name first, to search for it... wink
