Why there is no php 4.3.x package in the repo? It seems that it's still required by many projects and stable enough to use it in any kind of critical missions. I know that php5 is a way to go and the future but IMHO php4 should still be maintained in the official Arch repo.

arch is about being current. Not many old packages hang around. I believe if you search the forums, you will find that someone packaged php, and it is in a user repo.
As an aside, some people have achieved good results using the php4 compatability settings in php.ini present in php5 for just such issues (ie backwards compatability).
