I am looking to move my photo collection from iPhoto to something else. iPhoto 9 has scalability issues especially when run over a network. My library is pretty large with over 17300 photos in it. Its about 47gb. So, I'm looking for something that can scale well, and ideally works on mac, linux, and windows.

Tough call. If you find sth that fits the bill, please leave a note.
I'm not sure if they're powerful enough to haul your ~50 GB library:

how about google picasa? it works on all three platforms and it's the best photo manager imho on windows. The linux picasa3 is still beta, but still pretty good. Better than fspot. It's faster

@ lman
I'm only worried about the scalability part :-)

Picasa for linux is no longer in development, hence Linux version 3.0 Windows 3.6. You can run 3.6 in Wine but if you click on geolocation it will crash without being able to be started again. Digikam is much more powerfull, specially current svn, check it out.
