[SOLVED] No sound on right speaker with ALSA

Hello,

I've just installed Arch for my first time, and I'm having some problems with the sound.
My left speaker and the subwoofer work fine, but there's no sound coming out of the right speaker.

I've unmuted all channels in alsamixer.

What can I do about this?

I have to ask.  You did check the cables, right?

Does the speaker work with any other OS?

The cables are alright, and the speaker works with both Ubuntu and WIndows XP.

Did you actually turn up the volume of both channels, and not just the left one?

Re: [SOLVED] No sound on right speaker with ALSA

Check if it's not muted.

Edit: Maaaaybe (a really wild guess) that song you're playing is just for one channel.

Mr. Elendig:
The only slider that seems to have any effect on sound output in alsamixer is Side. I've unmuted all channels and increased the volume, but to no effect.

Re: [SOLVED] No sound on right speaker with ALSA

Do you run Ubuntu and XP on the same box? Maybe the socket is broken? Try swapping the cables left <-> right.

Re: [SOLVED] No sound on right speaker with ALSA

karol: I've had both Ubuntu and XP on the same box, now I've erased XP and installed arch instead.

I've booted Ubuntu now to see if the problem exists there too - it does.
This is weird, since before yesterday this didn't happen.

I'm testing on another PC to see if it's a speaker fault.

Re: [SOLVED] No sound on right speaker with ALSA

OK, turns out this was because of the speakers who don't work properly now. The reason I thought this had anything to do with arch is just bad timing.

If it's the same version of Ubuntu it worked on before, it is definitely a hardware problem. My left speaker has a cord that connects to my right speaker, which connects to the outlet and my PC. You could possible have something like that, so make sure to check everything before you come to the conclusion that the speaker is blown. wink

EDIT: Too late tongue
