Intel Corporation 82865G graphic card - 160fps in glxgears

Again Im here ((:
as topis says my grafhic card Intel Corporation 82865G is running on 160fps in glxgears...
installation looked like this :

pacman -S xf86-video-intel
gpasswd -a username video

and result:

$ glxgears
731 frames in 5.0 seconds = 145.987 FPS
711 frames in 5.0 seconds = 142.138 FPS
709 frames in 5.0 seconds = 141.796 FPS
724 frames in 5.0 seconds = 144.790 FPS
$ glxinfo | grep rendering
direct rendering: Yes

I know that glxgears should not be used as performance test, but this is really disappointing... In last arch instalation I was getting around 250 and whan I boot into ubuntu 7.04 live cd its around 300fps... something must be wrong!

can someone give me a hand?
thanks smile

Different drivers (versions)?

Does it look nice and plays smooth? Is the interface responsive?

A couple you can find in AUR.

I don't know how much mesa etc. mess with the performance so I can't really help you.

Re: Intel Corporation 82865G graphic card - 160fps in glxgears

I have tried :
intel-dri-git 20100130-1
xf86-video-intel-newest 2.12.0-1
xf86-video-intel-git 20100110-1
..from AUR but still getting 160fps...
Whats wrong with that?! is it really so weak GPU?

I've heard that glxgears is not a benchmark - that's why I asked you is it working OK.

Of course it is a solution - if you say it is. I do, I pick my fights and this is not one. Not yet.

This is my onboard card, an earlier / weaker model wrt yours I suppose.
I paid $100 for the whole computer - IMHO good value for money.

Re: Intel Corporation 82865G graphic card - 160fps in glxgears

I have done a little research and I find out that slow performance is caused by using legacy EXA not UXA which is still developing... but it was for 2.6.28 kernel so I dont know how it is in last stable kernel 2.6.34.1.
For now I found an utility called DriConf. This helped me configure 3D acc and things are now bit better.
Does anyone knows something more about how UXA,EXA,GEM works?

Re: Intel Corporation 82865G graphic card - 160fps in glxgears

Intel driver only uses UXA, everything else was removed a few versions ago. And glxgears really is not a benchmark, those numbers are meaningless. The question is, does everything work ok, or does it work slower than it used to?
