Tint2 crash (and causing crash of open apps).

Hi, first of all welcome fellow archers, this is my first post. I installed Arch (64bit) just today after some break.

I have one problem that keeps me away from enjoying openbox: tint2 is crashing after some time (10minutes, sometimes 30) and is crashing open applications too. But I can still get right-click menu and open new apps that run just fine, but panel remains freezed, I have to kill it. Same thing with avant window navigator. Can't figure out what's the issue, I'm still learning Arch.

Thanks for your time and answers. Hope I made myself clear about it.

Try running tint2 from a terminal and see if you get an output when it crashes. Also you try deleting your current tint2rc and see if it still crashes.

Re: Tint2 crash (and causing crash of open apps).

I've deleted tint2rc, so far it's fine, 2hours and still alive. Another hour or two will make me happy then.

One small question, not to waste place with another post - is it possible to set default apps in openbox? For example web browser or file manager (when I click in chrome downloads page some file "show in folder" it opens in chrome, new page, not in nautilus/thunar etc).

Openbox is just a window manager; it does not control default apps. BTW for Chrome, see if installing perl-file-mimeinfo helps.

perl-file-mimeinfo helped in Chrome, thanks! And tint2 is still alive, hope it will remain that way.

I knew I can depend on Arch community. big_smile

Re: Tint2 crash (and causing crash of open apps).

And tint2 died again, just minutes after reboot, this time I've put it in autostart. It happened in past with awn too, so it's not just tint2 issue I guess.

But when I started tint2 in terminal, it was fine for couple of hours... It's definitely something with openbox, I had pekwm for a while and it was fine with tint2 as I remember.

Re: Tint2 crash (and causing crash of open apps).

Hmm now when I killed tint2 and by right click menu I've started thunar, it became all grey when I moved it... Damn, I guess I will have to move to some fluxbox... or awesome maybe... openbox don't like me. neutral

Or I will live without panel, only with some trayer. I like openbox too much to change.

Re: Tint2 crash (and causing crash of open apps).

It had to be my fault in something I guess, after reinstall of Arch (different reason) openbox seems to work fine (with pypanel). Thanks again for the tip with Chrome.

It can be closed or whatever.
