Re: [req] noflushd

ok I didn't know. thanks
cpudynd -d -h /dev/hda -t 900
will close hda in 15 minutes if no IO activity
so that goes to /etc/rc.local I'm guessing

I didn't know cpudyn does hddyn tongue

you can add "cpudyn" to your daemons array in rc.conf... and there's a config file somewhere to specify the boot parameters....

Re: [req] noflushd

How smooth does it work?
I remember I shut down one of the drives of my old "server" with hdparm, and when I tried to swapon the swap-partition on the drive, the machine froze.

<bump>
However as I know to get full advantage of this tool you have to trace proceses, daemons that access hard drive regularly and change their options or disable if it is possible.
Maybe I'm wrong but if you have enough RAM memory you can disable swap partition and direct temp files to update themselves in /tmp mounted as tmpfs in RAM, so then hard drive can sleep well.
