Can't put icons on my desktop?

I am having problems putting icons on my desktop. I am using LXDE, and when I copy and paste an application shortcut, or a folder to my desktop folder, I get this error:

Any suggestions? thanks.

Are you sure it's possible to have icons on desktop in LXDE?

Edit: OK, I've found some screenshots that say lxde and the have icons, so I guess it's possible.

Do you have permissions for that directory?
