Hi,
I tried kde-unstable and kde-snapshots repo, but the problem remains. When i open e.g. dolphin with many files, i maximize window, and when i try to scroll through files the scrolling is laggy and choppy. In kde 4.4 theres no such problem at all. Im using latest packages. My video card is geforce 9500 gt, using proprietary driver.

deleting .kde4 doesnt help. also trying with new user doesnt help too. it looks like progdan's repo in past have installed some crap. disabling compositing doesnt help

sounds like a graphic card/driver issue

well i also get random crashes when trying to type something in e.g. konsole, konqueror dolphin etc. also, when i try to change my mouse cursor, systemsettings just crashes. i would be thankful if you would test and post here if you experience any of those bugs.

Upgraded to 4.4.95-1 today via kde-unstable and all lag/memory consumption issues appear to be resolved. Using 4.4.92 X was using over 300mb with Kwin compositing enabled, now using 30.4mb for the last hour and system feels snappier in general with far lower CPU usage.
This is on a Q6600 quad core with 6GB of RAM using the NVIDIA 256 drivers.

If you've got 6GB of RAM and it's using 300MB you don't really have a problem with the memory consumption. Apart from the fact you can take some out, sell it on ebay and buy something useful. :-)

I consider it a problem when a process suddenly starts using ~10x its typical memory

can you guys open system settings, go to input devices, select mouse, and cursor theme tab and when you click on other cursor theme does system settings crashes for you?

works fine for me, I was able to change to any of the different icon themes (by pressing apply), no crashes.

fwiw, I have had no problem with any of the 4.5 RC's beyond slightly poor performance, which is fixed in RC3.

well thats because something in my arch has seriously screwed up
the only way is to reinstall everything

Perhaps it's just something with KDE rather that Arch itself. I'd try uninstalling KDE completely, deleting any leftover files and installing the 4.5 RC3 from the kde-unstable repo. I just made a switch from KDEMod to vanilla KDE 4.5 RC2 (now updated to RC3 of course) and everything is working like a dream...
