Does composite work with nouveau?
It hasn't worked on my system yet, although I've enabled it in xorg.conf.
I might try the nv driver but then there's no chance at 3D with a 96xx card and xorg 1.8.

At least now atm. Maybe nvidia will release the driver for xorg 1.8 one day.

As far as I can recall, 3d compositing with nouveau is extremely experimental, may eat your hamsters, and is not recommended.

Well I'd at least like 2d compositing. Right now i don't have any compositing. Docky (the OSX-like dock) won't look nice without it.
