Hi,
I have a Nvidia 5200 FX graphics card. Xorg is working fine with the "nv" drivers, but I can't get it work with "nouveau" nor "nvidia" drivers. (I'd like to see some 3D stuff) In a three-year-old topic, I read that 173xx drivers should work, but pacman shows no such package. I tried to download drivers from the Nvidia website, but they wouldn't install (maybe I've done something wrong, I'm a linux newbie).
Thanks,
Mike
PS.: Using Xorg-server ver. 1.8.1.902-1

Welcome to Arch Forums.
Instead of following old threads I suggest our wiki and the news http://www.archlinux.org/news/502/
We had to wait a bit for nvidia to make new drivers, but the wait is over!
Proprietary nvidia drivers are here http://www.archlinux.org/packages/?sort … =&limit=50
They're fresh so the mirrors you're syncing to may not have them yet.
If you prefer nouveau, remember to create a file named "20-nouveau.conf" in "/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/" and fill it with:
Section "Device"
Identifier "nvidia"
Driver "nouveau"
EndSection

for the *.run driver X can NOT be running you need to boot into TEXT only
then run the installer
sh *.run
see:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_disp … 14.25.html
( but VERY IMPORTANT install the 173.14.27 from below
ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/173.14.27/
the .25 DOSE NOT SUPPORT xorg 1.8
the README
http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/L … er-03.html
but having pacman do it is much easier

Thank you, wise men. You've really helped me. I figured out what I was doing wrong: when I changed the /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist , I didn't use the "pacman -Syy" command. I've installed the 173xx drivers from the repo and it is superb. (I also tried nouveau, with the "20-nouveau.conf" file it finally worked but no 3D graphics)
Once again, thanks.
