ARCH 2010.05 x86 and x86_64 LiveCD Remaster Kit

cool
Hello ARCH lover's
well, I am working on some livecd kits for both Slackware and ARCH that will create
a bootable livecd/usb backup of your installed ARCH or Slackware system
that will run in similar fashion to Slax, i.e. persistent cd/usb and other boot
parameters.
I also included a manual-install (hdd) method and other goodies
Please see here for further info
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions … ost4022234

so, this allows one to make a

full livebackup of existing system
a rescuecd
or whatever

This is the same kernel, etc I use in the current nFluxOS ARCH/Slackware versions
http://multidistro.com/

have fun!

Re: ARCH 2010.05 x86 and x86_64 LiveCD Remaster Kit

There seems to be a couple bugs still for this linux live for x86 and x86_64 arch/slack versions
The bug is that if you run persistent cd/usb; you must make a ext2/ext3 partition on usb
and save to a folder there you specify
For some reason it will not save to either Slax's "slaxsave.dat" or SalixOS' "slxsave.xfs"
and if you run from fat32 usb and put a save folder on fat32 usb it will have issues with posixovl
and will not shutdown/reboot

The "fix" is right now to either save to a named folder on ext2/ext3 usb or hdd partition

Example usb, with your live remaster on sdb1

sdb1 fat32 your remaster

sdb2 ext3 "has a folder named 'mysave'"

and then edit your syslinux.cfg or grub menu.lst, etc to say

changes=/mysave/

you do not need to specify the device, simply the name of your folder you create to save stuff too.

so, make a folder on ext3 usb or hdd partition of whatever name you want and
edit syslinux.cfg changes= parameter for your folder, etc

Sorry about this and for further info on Ritchie's work for Linux Live for x86/x86_64 with squashfs 4.0 see here

Re: ARCH 2010.05 x86 and x86_64 LiveCD Remaster Kit

OK
I think have all the issues fixed....

Now available; kits for both x86 & x86_64 ARCH 2010.05/Testing

The kits include all this

live kernel (ZEN 2.6.34)
kernel firmware, modules, and kernel source

linux-live-6.3.0_x86 or Linux-live-6.3.0x86_64

also contains SalixOS' "usb-persistencewizard"
which allows you to create a slxsave.xfs for persistence on CD/USB/HDD

essential scripts, etc and a readme too.

Basically, extract everything to where it's supposed to go
and invoke the "build" script in linux-live-6.3.0_x86 or Linux-live-6.3.0x86_64

Note: it's best to keep the linux-live-6.3.0_x86 or Linux-live-6.3.0x86_64 folder in
/root
Also, it makes the live media in /tmp;; do not reboot without moving the finished live-media
out of /tmp as ARCH will delete /tmp at reboot!

If any issues, comments or you need help, just post!
Thanks and Rock On ARCH Linux!

Re: ARCH 2010.05 x86 and x86_64 LiveCD Remaster Kit

Today updated the kernel26-livecd kit to 2.6.36 vanilla kernel with aufs2 and squashfs-lzma patches
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=41875

you can optionally just install one of two pre-made i686 and x86_64 kernels that the kit would produce if you just did makepkg.
i686 livecd kernel 2.6.36
http://multidistro.com/Kernels/2.6.36/k … pkg.tar.xz

x86_64 livecd kernel 2.6.36
http://multidistro.com/Kernels/2.6.36/k … pkg.tar.xz

and just use the components in the livecd-kit to create the live media

The resulting live-media is basically how I make the ARCH/Slackware versions of nFlusOS
http://multidistro.com/

any questions/comments please post!

CTKArchlive does a fine job with archlinux , persistent and cp2ram..addons..latest kernel or older kernel...............

Re: ARCH 2010.05 x86 and x86_64 LiveCD Remaster Kit

Yes, I just noticed CTKArchlive, does it let you remaster it or does it let you construct a livecd or both?
as for larch, I have heard it's a bit complicated; and are you referring to archiso2 or the original archiso-live by Godane?
but there is a "archiso" too..

Which one is the easiest to use?
I was gonna install CTKArchlive to my old lappy 266mhz 160mb ram toshiba 7000ct with 4g hdd
as I usually test lite distros on it.

VERY interesting project.  i wonder, does it deserve featuring on this wiki page too?
