GPRS/EDGE over Bluetooth = PROBLEM

I've read so many articles about getting GPRS/EDGE over Bluetooth working but it's not..! sad I followed the how-to on: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Blu … GPRS_Howto but when I try:

sudo pon avea

it says:

/usr/sbin/pppd: pppd is unable to open the /dev/ppp device.
You need to create the /dev/ppp device node by
executing the following command as root:
        mknod /dev/ppp c 108 0

Then I manually created it and this time it said that I wasn't able to find gprs-connect and gprs-disconnect scripts so I moved them to /etc/ppp/peers/ where also my avea config is. Any way, now this is what happens when I write: sudo pon avea

[17:54] (tunix@penguix peers)$ sudo pon avea
Serial connection established.ection at any stage!
Using interface ppp0
Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/rfcomm0
LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
Connection terminated.

Sending break to the modem

PDP context detached
Serial link disconnected.
Modem hangup

-----

Can somebody please help me about this problem ?

Re: GPRS/EDGE over Bluetooth = PROBLEM

I was pulling my hair out trying it over usb connection from laptop to blackberry.  Believe me bluetooth is much easier.  If you install 'networkmanager' and 'blueman' (referenced at the bottom of the wiki article you mention - http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Blu … GPRS_Howto it will work.  You may have to initiate a connection and dial-up-networking from your phone and then again using blueman (run it with the blueman-manager command).

Now run your 'sudo pon avea' command and you should be able to connect.

Important: using Movistar mobile operator in Ecuador, you must set your browser to go through a proxy to work so make sure you set the APN name, username and password correct in your /etc/ppp/peers/avea script correctly for this to work.

Also, let us know if you are actually still experiencing this issue and what errors you are getting as this is a very old post

good luck..

minimal - over a year and a half since this thread was active, so the OP has most likely solved the problem, or else stopped using Arch.
