Catalyst 10.4 causing hang during power down.

It appears that something about fglrx is causing my system to hang when shutting down. Its all the way to "Power off" and then freezes. I ran some tests.

If I modprobe fglrx and try to shutdown without ever running an X server, it shuts down okay.

If I modprobe fglrx, run an X server, kill the X server and rmmod fglrx, the hang still occurs when I try to power down.

If I only run an X server on the vesa driver, everything works fine on shutdown.

Running with the catalyst-test from the AUR with my Mobility Radeon 5830. Ideas?

I had the same with 2.6.34-rc2 but with 2.6.34-rc3 it works again.

Hm.. I'm still on the stock 2.6.32 kernel. Maybe future upgrades will help then...

Re: Catalyst 10.4 causing hang during power down.

I have kernel 2.6.32 and catalyst 10.4 beta without any issue.
Any errors in logs?

Not that were immediately evident. Maybe I'll take a closer look, though. As far as I'm aware, everything goes swimmingly until the point it's supposed to cut power, which is after logging is stopped.

Re: Catalyst 10.4 causing hang during power down.

Well, I think I have a little problem too, perhaps is related with yours. Before the shutdown or reboot I noticed that the services or daemons are not stoped or at least are not shown, seems as the reboot is forced. If I leave X  and reboot from command line everything is fine.  Sorry can not help you. (me n00b).

Re: Catalyst 10.4 causing hang during power down.

Yeah there's nothing in the logs for me that seems like it could cause the problem. One thing that's interesting is that the problem only applies to trying to actually shut off. Reboots still work fine for me.

Sorry Crozepp, my daemons still get stopped fine, my guess would be that it's simply happening on an non-active terminal for you.

Well, this is still happening with Catalyst 10.5 and 2.6.33. Hopefully 2.6.34 will help like someone suggested above. I'm out of ideas otherwise.

Re: Catalyst 10.4 causing hang during power down.

Still happening with Catalyst 10.7 and kernel 2.6.34. Logs still show nothing of note different between a shutdown and a restart besides the runlevel.

Not sure what to do next.
