Why Most U.S. Mirrors Out of Date?

Is something going on with the mirrors? Almost all of the U.S. mirrors have not been synced in a week. A couple are way out of date (by a month or more). And only two or three are up to date.

Re: Why Most U.S. Mirrors Out of Date?

Yeah, that would seem to explain it, since the date matches up with when most of the mirrors stopped updating. Unfortunately the end result of cutting off rsync access for mirrors not on 2-tier schemes is that 10, out of 16 U.S. mirrors stopped updating a week ago, and 2 were already months out of date anyway. Leaving only three mirrors that are still updating properly, plus the official arch ftp server.

What is a 2-tier scheme, out of curiosity?

tier 1 mirrors sync from arch server, the rest of the mirrors (tier 2) sync from tier 1

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

So some of the mirrors in the mirrorlist are tier 1 and some are tier 2? is there a way to tell which are which?

It shouldn't bother end users if a mirror is tier 1 or 2.

Re: Why Most U.S. Mirrors Out of Date?

Hey there, folks: new Arch user here.  Just installed today, and man, was it a four-hour pain in the ass.  The reason?  I kept getting hung up at the X server configuration, because (unknown to me at the time) I had uncommented half a dozen out-of-date repo mirrors, and couldn't get a current version of Xorg to generate /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d for me.  After playing around with configurations and switching mirrors for about two hours, I finally managed to get a good mirror and set up my system.  I don't mean for this to reflect poorly on Arch; I'm looking forward to using what the devs put their work into!  It's just that installation is one hell of a hassle for an Arch newbie when the snapshot .iso contains so many bad mirrors; not to mention, the "mirror check" site also seems to be lagging behind!  I hope this gets resolved, if only to spare others of what I went through today--and of course, to help keep us all on the bleeding edge!  Anyway, I'm looking forward to playing around with my new setup.  I wonder if I can get the Bespin style compiled with ABS... wink
