I noticed since after the last mplayer update i can't watch some of my mkv x264 movies anymore. Mplayer starts playback just fine with normal terminal output but the movie is always paused and not playing. I can forward and rewind through the movie with mouse and keyboard as usual but its just not playing. Totem has no problem with the same movies and they worked just fine with the old mplayer-svn. Anybody else has this problem?

i guess is a regression handling badly encoded videos. try updating to the latest svn revision and see if is fixed and if not, you should report it upstream

Ok thanks for the quick reply, i'll try latest svn tonight and see if it works.

I had issues playing a[n mkv] file with DTS audio. Totem played it fine (using I don't know what gstreamer backend, probably the -plugins-ugly). I began messing with mplayer's audio decoding options and it turns out that ffmpeg's decoding makes it stutter like crazy, however, using libdca, it plays normally. I tried rolling back ffmpeg, but that did not work. Will try latest svn as well. Thanks and cheers.

i have this too. Strangely the same videos work perfectly fine with vlc, another ffmpeg based player
He hoped and prayed that there wasn't an afterlife. Then he realized there was a contradiction involved here and merely hoped that there wasn't an afterlife.

mplayer-git from AUR is different from mplayer-svn. You could give it a try. It heavily depends on ffmpeg. I really like it very much!

This is due to the fact that mplayer ships its own ffmpeg, I am not sure if vlc uses the system's libavcodec that comes with ffmpeg or provides its own. See this link.

Latest git as of today works fine with the same movie, thank you.
