pdfedit for text modification

i would like to use pdfedit to change the text in a pdf file as shown in this howto:

the only problem is that when i select the text of interest in the main window and expand object0, i get a tree-view of characters in the string of selected text (instead of what is shown in screenshot 7 of the page listed above).  my question is how do i configure pdfedit to display a string without the tree, so that i can edit that text and paste it into the document as shown in the tutorial.
