wine does not run any game anymore

Hi,

Since wine package has replaced bin32-wine, I cannot run any game either as user or as root. I get a wine dialog saying "you're not authorized to run this game". I usually launch my games with playonlinux, but this also occurs in console:

[root@arch root]# cd "/root/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/Wolfenstein/drive_c/Program Files/Activision/Wolfenstein/SP/"
[root@arch SP]# wine Wolf2.exe

I have nvidia, nvidia-utils and lib32-nvidia-utils installed. OpenGL works fine according to glxinfo and glxgears.

Thanks for your help.

Why are you running wine as root?

Long story smile I was using playonlinux and had space only on the / partition. playonlinux is not very flexible with the install path (~) and I was lazy. I also thought I would avoid permission problems.
Anyway, I have tried as a user too, I get the same error.

All i can say is that it works fine for me. Try moving .wine out of the way and creating a new bottle.

Re: wine does not run any game anymore

Thanks, I'll try this.

One thing I noticed: after wine 1.3 update, it always tried to install Gecko before starting the game. Is this normal?

Re: wine does not run any game anymore

OK, I just tried again removing .wine but still have the same issue. I downgraded to bin32-wine 1.2 and I can run Wolfenstein as root. Is it a regression?

Re: wine does not run any game anymore

I just posted the issue on the wine maling list, and was proposed to perform some regression tests. Apparently the "authorisation declined" dialog is not from wine. It may be possible that wine 1.3 is compatible with some sort of copy protection? That is strange since I use a patched (no CD) Wolf2.exe file.Alternatively, maybe that is because I run as root and wine does not like this anymore.

Re: wine does not run any game anymore

Good that you're tracking this down with upstream. You can find older wine packages on schlinix and the like to perform regression testing.
