[Solved] - Scrotwm - why not yet in the official repositories?

Fellow archers  I could not find a reason in the forum neither in the wiki. What is the reason that scrotwm is not in the official repos yet?

For the same reason any other AUR package is not in the official repos, it doesn't have enough votes for a TU to bother maintaining it.

Seeing as Scrotwm has 100+ votes, I would just say that no TU has personal interest in maintaining the package in community.

Exactly.  I guess none of the current dev/TU team uses it.   There is always room for more TUs so...

any way I'm not trying to say that scrotwm should be in the repos, only trying to understand the process, mora than happy to use AUR version.

Actually I think keenerd is still using scrotwm for his own needs.  He is probably too busy to even think about maintaining the package though.

Contact him through email or talk with him on #archlinux (if he is there).

that's a good idea. are the process of maintaining a AUR package and a repo package similar?. I would image that maintaining a repo package must be a more intensive task in term of time consuming.

Probably an AUR package is maintained/supported by the community for instance submitting patches, on the other hand repo's packages are maintained by a small group of people which are part of the arch development team.

am i right?
cheers

There is really not that much more to maintaining a repo package compared to maintaining an AUR package.   The only difference is that you commit to SVN rather than upload to the AUR and you have to add the binaries to the repos.  The community still report bugs and if you are lucky submit fixes.

Edit: more people get angry when you break stuff though...

I thought you'd never ask! tongue

Sometime in the *near* future I hope to be doing some packaging for Arch because as of now, I take so much from Arch without giving back (besides support that is).
