Hi,
I bought an Acer Aspire 5745G i7-720M laptop and I installed Arch linux in it. When I am working in Arch and I try to insert a dvd I can't open the dvd drive pressing the eject button. At first time I thought this was a hardware problem but if I power off and the computer is restarting, I can open the dvd-drive. I don't know if this is a bug, o maybe I am missing something important about linux. The kernel installed is the latest 2.6.34 in the arch repo.
Thanks.
Chris

Does the "eject" command open it? If not what are the errors?

when cdroms get mounted they may get locked. Use a device manager that mounts the devices without locking them (i use kde), or set the appropiate configuration in the system that doesn't lock cdroms.

If you are still working on the optical drive (e.g. copying some files from it), you need to stop it, u(n)mount the drive and then eject.
You can use commands like 'lsof' to check which process is still using you optical drive.

Thank you for the replies. It's a bug. Other people had the same problem. In this url http://www.oz9aec.net/index.php/linux/3 … 45g-laptop you can see what hardware for this laptop is supported by linux. I can use "eject" to open the dvd-drive.
