Hmm, the guys in #mpd say that you can use "mpc update" instead of having to restart the daemon.

And I've found killing 'su' gets rid of that open process.

exactly ... and if you don't have/installed mpc, you can do this:

[root@Asteraceae damir]# /etc/rc.d/mpd start
:: Starting Music Player Daemon                                                                  [DONE]
[root@Asteraceae damir]# /etc/rc.d/mpd update-db
:: Updating mpd's database ...                                                                   [BUSY] 
:: Output written to /var/log/mpd.db-update                                                      [DONE]

as you see, while the daemon is running you can do a /etc/rc.d/mpd update-db to update the db

not essentially ... if you have nicer output or some more intelligent wrapper then i would even think of addapting rc.d/mpd to take some of your code

what did you do differently?

Oh I didn't do mine in the form of an rc script.

I just slapped this in ~/bin

And this just happens over and over. Audioscrobbler is always too busy, and any songs that are played after this first one are "skipped"

This is what it does even when the servers will take submissions. Any ideas as to what is causing this?

Figured out. When you have mpd crossfading, mpdscribble considers it "skipping" in the song, and it wont report it.
