hmm interesting
cd and dvd filesystems are mostly iso9660 - but don't bother
try to (with sudo or as root ):
mkdir /home/yourdir
mount /dev/sr0 /home/yourdir

You generally mount in /mnt or /media ...
@ sezuor
'man mount'.

Did you create /home/dir first?
If you can burn CDs you should be in the optical group, but you can check tat too.

Post your fstab.

Did it get mounted?

No :b

Are you trying to mount a DVD that you burned yourself? If so, I'd bet that it may have burned incorrectly. Can you try mounting another DVD that you did not burn yourself?

Try
sudo mount -t udf /dev/sr0 /home/dir
That's a dvd fs type, too.

Is it an audioCD? A blank disc?

So it didn't burn correctly..
But I still can't mount a blank dvd.

And exactly what fs you have on a blank dvd?
Edit: typo.

Never heard of such a filesystem ;P
Sometimes you may need to umount the disk prior to burning it, but you don't need to mount it to burn.
Just for the record, audio CD's don't have a filesystem - it's just a stream of bits.

I tried to burn an mdf file without converting it to iso.

@OP - "man mount" will solve everything you need.
