FVWM is ueber cool! How do you tell active window from inactive one?
Thanks! The inactive windows have dark blue borders around it, while the active one has white (so the spreadsheet in my SS). I have sloppy focus, so whatever window is under the mouse cursor gets active.
I am always impressed with those who have the time and patience to set up FVWM. I sure wish I had the patience lol.
FVWM config is pretty straight forward, but does take patience in getting things "just right". I learned most of mine stealing from other people's configs on FVWM Forum (RIP for now)

Believe it or not, i once printed out the complete fvwm man page in order to make myself read it on the bus etc (didn't have a notebook then) . Needless to say it didn'T work. And while i used fvwm for quite a while (in paralell to fvwm-crystal), in the end i moved on (i'm now using tiling wms anyway). I have fond memories of fvwm though.

Give this one a try: http://box-look.org/content/show.php/fv … ent=123415 - basic wm functions in half an hour, accurately organized configuration file.
I'll have to give that a try, as soon as some free time opens up again. I had gotten very close to a nice, working FVWM setup before, but ended up messing it up somehow and got frustrated + so far behind in all the other things I have to do.
And for the one who asks "What's so cool about FVWM?" There is no floating WM out there that is as customizable as FVWM. You can literally make it do anything and everything any other floater out there does, and I think can even make it into a tiler. The problem is, it takes time and patience... and not trying to be a fool and make the most featureful, shinny FVWM setup in your first try like I did...

Yes, you wouldn't want to have many eyecandy widgets and features with FVWM, or it will ruin countless sleeps. Although there are some fvwm gurus on this board (come out comout, wherever you are ) who are more than capable of doing this, I'm not one of them. My config is pretty small, and very simple.

How'd you theme firefox like that? I imagine that it involves both gtk and firefox itself.
My gtk/openbox theme is Moka from rent-0n. I've got no idea how the firefox theme looks without that Moka, but feel free to try . For the firefox theme, take a look right here.
Could you post your colors in hex, so I can try them in my .Xdefaults?
Sure!

You can find the .Xdefaults file on this site. Go to > Linux > Configs > .Xdefaults

What is so cool about FVWM?
That it looks like MWM by default.

Depends what you mean by this "eye-candy". Most people put it in terms of compositing, which FVWM doesn't support natively, but programs such as xcompmgr and transset-df can provide this. As for everything else, it's all in the eye of the beholder.

You see, ,my problem is I am a perfectionist, extremely so.... and at the same time am an extremely busy man. Put the two together with me trying to configure FVWM to meet my needs in short of half a day's time, lol and it becomes frustrating .
