I've built packages of the current Firefox 4.0 beta, if anyone is interested in trying them.
The package is named firefox-beta. It replaces firefox, but not xulrunner.
This is built with a patch so you will get LCD-filtered fonts.
Repo:
[heftig]
Server=http://pkgbuild.com/~heftig/repo/$archThe package was based on firefox-pgo-beta.
Source is at http://pkgbuild.com/~heftig/firefox-beta . It also hosts trunk builds.

Is this version capable of watching youtube video without the flash plugin?
Offline
It does have support for WebM. This plays without flash: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLxQiI8c1Bs&html5=1
Youtube's HTML5 player interface seems to be somewhat buggy, though. Sometimes the player interface just freezes and stops updating. Playback controls still work though.
Both Firefox and Opera show the same problems.

Does the beta run under x86_64?

Yes.

Darn, my fingers were faster than my brain. Didn't see your repo and just tried the version from AUR that says it's for i686 only.
So, thanks for the repo ![]()

Sweet, this firefox + cairo-ubuntu actually scales images properly when using a high DPI interface ![]()

Anyone else tested this? How does zooming behave with a regular cairo?

Still being updated, currently at beta 6. Note that this is built with system cairo, unlike the current xulrunner.

Can you guys set up the built-in Sync in beta 7?
I'm not sure whether it's my fault or the Linux version of Firefox, but every time I try to set up my sync, after entering the Sync Key, Firefox crashes. I tried to run it from a terminal, but no useful information was given. Running it as root doesn't change anything either.
I tried refreshing the system (this repo included ofc), tried to restart, checked it on Win 7 (it works) and I guess it's irrelevant, but I'm using Openbox and my system is 32bit.

Trying it now, thanks for the repo heftig!

What's the difference between this package the the nightly build located in AUR?

That this one is built on an arch system using system libraries, including cairo. The nightly build is fetched as a binary from mozilla repos.

Pretty cool. One question though: is it advisable to create a new userprofile after changing from firefox-beta-bin to your build?
Offline
Not necessary.

You can not go to fullscreen in html5 youtube yet.
You can if you set the video to full screen and then put firefox to fullscreen with F11.

Has anyone gotten vimperator working with Firefox 4.0b? I can't seem to make it work.
I assume I need to use a development version of vimperator as well. I've tried the most recent (e.g., the latest snapshot from here), with Firefox 4 both from the firefox4 and the firefox-pgo-beta packages in AUR with no luck. In particular, while Firefox says that Vimperator is installed, and I restart Firefox, nothing changes. The menu and toolbars are still there, there's no commandline, none of the vimperator keybindings are active. (I've gotten the same results with pentadactyl.)
I'm using Arch x86_64 if that makes any difference.

Try the Pentadactyl nightly. It works well here. Also, you might want to try a fresh profile.
