Re: how's wine 1.2 for you?

I can't seem to install Wine, no matter what I do, so I can't get any feedback back to you.

None of the Canadian Mirrors seem to have it, though it does not give me the usual "error: [package-name]: could not find or read package".

I thought Wine was in the [Extra] Repository anyways?

Also, winetricks does not appear to be accessible by pacman. I heard it was in the AUR, but I am not sure if I should download the tarball or the pkgbuild?

winetricks - you download the tarball. An AUR helper may come handy - it's all in the wiki.
wine - try one of those mirrors https://www.archlinux.de/?page=MirrorStatus - they are up to date.

Re: how's wine 1.2 for you?

Well, I finally tried wine 1.2 now. For the most part I'd say it's good. Most of my old games (Key VNs, T98-Next) still work as before (with the exception of Touhou 6-10 fullscreen, but this is a problem with the intel graphics driver since KMS was forced default; a few of the touhou config.exe don't work either, but they have always been very finicky, even on native windows).

I was pleasantly surprised to see that the Fortelle engine (Kogado's games; I tested with Solfege) works! Having said that, on my machine it's a little too laggy to be playable without getting dizzy.

When I get back home and find my Fantasia Sango 1 disk I'll test that out too, maybe if I am lucky it would work.

Re: how's wine 1.2 for you?

As we have wine 1.3 in the repos, maybe it's time to close this topic / open another? Each wine version brings sth new.

Re: how's wine 1.2 for you?

Wine 1.2 is still the latest /stable/ version. Wine 1.3 is the /development/ version.

Many people (including me) don't bother with the development versions and only upgrade to the stable versions because things work, and there is less breakage.

The upgrade to 1.2 was significantly larger than 1.3 as well.
