Firefox and mozplugger problem

I am trying to get Firefox 3.6.8-1 to open pdfs inside the browser so I installed mozplugger 1.14.1 from AUR. The plugin does load (I can see it in about:plugins) and it also confirms that it has a handler for pdf files (again, in about:plugins).

When I click on a link to a PDF file it gets downloaded instead! I also went to Preferences/Applications and checked that pdfs are selected to be opened using mozplugger.

I also tried copying the config to my home directory where it gets picked up by mozplugger, according to about:plugins.  I tried removing "noisy" parameter from the "evince" line in mozpluggerrc. I then run "firefox -debug" but there is no output shown when I click on a pdf file and the file gets downloaded instead.

I do not have any of the pdf viewers mentioned in mozpluggerrc installed, with the exception of evince. I have even tried to remove the lines related to other pdf viewers in my mozpluggerrc but it did not help.

I am at loss as to what else I can do, please help.
