[solved] Gnome Network Manager Unable to connect to an access point

I have come across a very strange problem.

The network manager was able to connect (and auto connect) to a wireless access point. For testing purpose I used to delete the connection regularly and reconnect to it by entering the password everytime and configure it. After sometime it is not able to connect to that network(only) and it connects to any other network in the environment. I tried uninstalling networkmanager and network-manager-applet and reinstalling it. But the problem still persists. Any suggestions?

Other Details :
nm-applet 0.8
networkmanager 0.8-1
wireless access point ssid "linksys"

Any suggestions are appreciated

I used to have the same problem with my Belkin router.
I solved the problem by simply reseting the router (just unplugging it from the power outlet for 5 - 10 secs does the trick).
Maybe it can work out for you too.

Re: [solved] Gnome Network Manager Unable to connect to an access point

I've been having the same issue with nm-applet and networkmanager.  Everything was working fine, then after work two days ago it just refused to connect. I had WPA set up for security, so I disabled that, and eventually did a hard reset on the router, still won't connect. I can use a wired connection at home, and my laptop works fine at work on wireless. My wife's Acer netbook connects fine. I hadn't done any major updates that I know of.

I'm going to try a different router tonight. Maybe it's the cheap-o Belkin I'm using.

You can also try using "wpa_supplicant" to connect from the CLI, for debuging purposes.

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wpa_supplicant

It's very well documented.

Thanks. I restarted the router and it is working fine. A very strange solution though.

Lately, I've been forced to do that every other week...

I'm glad you've sorted things out.

I used to use that before networkmanager. I tried and DHCP was timing out, even after a router reset. Yet here at work, both wpa_supplicant and networkmanager work fine. Oddly enough, WICD doesn't want to work anywhere, always timing out on DHCP.
