Unable to login to the forum using surf

I am no longer able to login to the forum using my normal browser, surf.  When I attempt to log in, I'm given a page titled "Info" that states "Please type in the correct code!".  The same results when I attempt to request a new password via email.  This problem has only occured since the recent forum changes.

Re: Unable to login to the forum using surf

Did you type in the code? As far as I know it's only started appearing recently, but is required to successfully login. It's right below the word CAPTCHA...

Re: Unable to login to the forum using surf

That would seem to be a problem, especially seeing as I don't see any such word or code.

Re: Unable to login to the forum using surf

Important note: I also do not see a captcha in firefox, and am able to login without incident.

edit: looking at the page's source, it appears the div containing the captcha is intentionally hidden.  Corrent me if I'm wrong here.

            <div style="background-image:url(funnydot.php?funnydot_time=1281569743);visibility:hidden;position:absolute;z-index:-1">
            <fieldset>
                <legend>CAPTCHA</legend>
                <div>
                    <label for="funnydot_hashfield">Please type in the following code: <strong>ba6c</strong></label>
                    <input id="funnydot_hashfield" type="text" name="funnydot_hash" size="4" value="" />
                    <input type="hidden" name="funnydot_time" value="1281569743" />
                </div>
            </fieldset>
        </div>

Re: Unable to login to the forum using surf

It's been too long since I looked at html, so I don't know. I get it in links and lynx, but not any graphical browsers. I can see the code and need to type it in to login. I missed it the first time too, I thought that is what happened to you.

How did you install surf? I'm not familiar with it, and thought it was also a non gui web browser (I was thinking of surfraw). The "surf" from AUR works for me, and so does netsurf (the only name related browser I saw in the repos). I did not need to type in the code with any of these.

I've also had this message a few times with firefox. When I retry logging in, it works.

Re: Unable to login to the forum using surf

This might be a bug in your browser. If its does support CSS a cookie is set so you don't need to type in the code. If it doesn't you see the filed to manually type it in.

It seems surf uses webkit...so I guess it does not store the cookie as webkit is fine with CSS.

@Snowman: I have never had this. Is it reproducable? The only use case I could imagine is opening two forms in one browser. The last opened will override the code from the first which will then fail.

I'm not Snowman, but I have had this happen as well.  It only happened on one occasion and it was on my android phone right after the forum upgrade.  I have not been able to reproduce it.

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Re: Unable to login to the forum using surf

This happens in Namoroka too. In my case, if "Load images automatically" is not ticked in Preferences, I cannot logon, and I get the "Please type in the correct code!" message.

Re: Unable to login to the forum using surf

Sure, you have to load images as the cookie is set by one.

I'm not able to reproduce it.   One time when it happened, I was at the forum login page.  But instead of logging in, I went back to Arch home page to check something then came back to log in the forums.  So it might have been a browser cache issue.

Re: Unable to login to the forum using surf

I just got this same problem when I tried to login from my fedora install using firefox. Had to remove history and clear cookies before it would work. Still working fine from my Arch system. Certainly a strange one this.

Re: Unable to login to the forum using surf

I was affected by this as well. First it said "wrong code". Then I read this thread and disabled CSS and the code shown up. I tried to type it in and send the form, but it just threw me back to the main page. I tried putting the code in, then turning CSS back on and then submitting the form, didn't work.
Then I deleted my .mozilla and guess what, it worked.
I can live with loss of this profile (relatively undeveloped one) but that was quite annoying.

Browser: Namaroka 3.6.8, official Arch repo.
