Hey everyone,
Just got myself a Tomtom ease, and i'm trying to connect it to the Tomtom Home app under windows xp running in Virtualbox 3.2.6.
When I plug the device in thunar automounts it.
It shows up as a usb device in my virtualbox menu, but is greyed out.
I unmount it in thunar and it is still greyed out in virtualbox.
I have also tried "umount /media/INTERNAL" and still, no luck in virtualbox.
Anybody know of any solution to this problem?
Thank You.

I remember having a similar problem with my mp3 player, I can't remember for sure what I did but I think it had something to do with pluging the device in before or after virtualbox was running. I thought it was after otherwise it would gray out (I deduce) because linux recognized it first?... Also make sure you are not using the OSE version. USB is not enabled. Hope that helps, best of luck.

That was my initial thought as well, as I have had the problem with my ipod.
I have not yet used my ipod or the new tom tom under virtualbox with my latest Arch build however, and the solutions you've suggested don't work this time around.
Thank you for the input though.

Did you use virtualbox-ose ? Must use virtialbox-bin from aur ,and follow this wiki http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Virtualbox

Is your user a part of the vboxusers group?
Have added this to your fstab?
none /proc/bus/usb usbfs auto,busgid=108,busmode=0775,devgid=108,devmode=0664 0 0

Hello there. Having the exact same problem here.
After update of virtualbox_bin from aur, it fails to attach usb device.
I have that magic line in my /etc/fstab and hal is running.
Here's the pic of error window

well i'm also struggling with this, i use virtualbox-ose from community, and it used to mount usb stuff fine. didn't matter if i connected device before or after starting vbox. i remember i also had problems with vbox not building necessary modules after one of the latest kernel upgrades, which i made me go back to 2.6.33 i think, because of kernel26-headers.
i'm going to try out virtualbox-bin from aur, see if it helps.
box1: Arch (linux-3.17-rc5)
box2: Gentoo (linux-3.17-rc5)

Afaik Virtualbox OSE doesn't support USB so yes you should get virtualbox-bin from the AUR.

OK, i got it. But device is still unavailable. rebooting after this. cra mentioned hal, is that a dep for virtualbox_bin? i ditched hal earlier this year..
edit: device is still unavailable as in device appears grayed out, at least now it shows up.
