How can Hurd hope to succeed anytime soon without SATA support? Is this planned/currently being worked on?
In truth I don't think anyone, not even RMS, really expects HURD to succeed anymore.

13. Joeboy: Are you still at all optimistic about HURD, or would you agree that
that ship has sailed?RMS: I am not very optimistic about the GNU HURD. It makes some progress,
but to be really superior it would require solving a lot of deep
problems. However, mainly what I think about the HURD is that
finishing it is not crucial.

the advantage of trying Arch Hurd is you get the proof that Linux is much better then Hurd
< Daenyth> and he works prolifically

I think hurd is useful if you want to test something new and learn about operating systems and their architectures. At the moment there is no reason to use it in a productive system but as long as there are motivated, engaged programmers working on it they probably get somehow advantage in a special thing and become used (in a productive way...)

Hmm...anybody up for Arch Minix? ![]()
EDIT: Actually, that may be a good idea....
I see I'm not alone: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=61477

I like Minix myself too, but It is more bsdish and It hase a more complicated filesystem sturcture. Also pacman was not able to build in Minix but in Hurd.
The Hurd is also more famous, but If Hurd get usable anytime, Minix will then be the bsd for Microkernels and Hurd the Linux (GNU).

Uhhh ... may be after they decide on a microkernel. One thing for sure, it'll support Mr. Fusion.
edit: It seems they'll stick with viengoos. Development with Mach continues, however, so hopefully sometime before the sun supernovas.
I am sorry to be pedantic and this most probably is OT, but the Sun will not go supernova (as far as our present understanding of stars is concerned) because its mass is too small (less than so called Chandrasekhar limit).
But I see your point ![]()
