Basically, when makepkg fails to build a package for whatever reason, the cursor/all user input from the shell simply "disappears" -- it is still there, just invisible! The only fix is to exit the shell and open a new window.
Example:
$ makepkg -sf
==> Making package: torrent-search 0.8.1-2 (Sat Aug 14 07:02:38 EDT 2010)
==> Checking Runtime Dependencies...
==> Installing missing dependencies...
Password:
==> ERROR: Aborted by user! Exiting...
<<<I start typing here but none of my text is echoed in the shell.>>>
<<<I typed head PKGBUILD and then hit ENTER and head worked, but again, I can't see anything that I'm typing>>>
Can anyone else confirm this on their machine? I have verified it on two different Arch boxes.

I have seen this, and have a suspicion that it got fixed in git... I think pacman-3.4.1 will be out soon, so please file a bug if it is still present then.
