The volume going into my speakers with Master and PCM maxed is quite powerful, and totally great.
Sadly, when using earphones with my speakers, it is definitely not.
My speakers are the type without a volume control.
Without buying additional hardware, is there any way I can force ALSA to go to higher volumes?
Yes, I know, that can induce crackling, etc... I don't really care, I just need more volume, from the entire system (not any one app).
Like I said, I have Master and PCM maxed.

IIRC PulseAudio can do that, ALSA can't. You can use some software (sox?) to make the music louder before sending it to your headphones.

It might be possible with the ALSA softvol plugin's max_dB parameter.
