Dell Studio 17 - resume after suspend-to-ram not working.

Dell Studio 17 (laptop)
Archlinux x86_64
Linux version 2.6.32-ARCH

4096 mb ram
4096 mb swap
usage around 3.5-4% on suspend

ATI graphics drivers.

I close the lid/suspend, the laptop suspends to ram, when i open it back up/resume (i think hdd spins, wifi, etc lights up) the screen is black. Can't alt + f2 or alt + shift + f12, etc. Have to power down and back up. Hibernate works perfectly. Happened since I bought the laptop, around 3 weeks ago. System is up-to-date (all my packages). No issues with the laptop going in standby and resuming.

-- some info that might be of use
$ tail -40 /var/log/pm-suspend.log

$ groups

/etc/acpi/handler.sh
http://paste.pocoo.org/show/189055

$ lspci -v
http://paste.pocoo.org/show/189057/

/etc/rc.conf DAEMONS array (HAL automatically loads acpid i believe)
DAEMONS=(@syslog-ng @net-profiles !network netfs @crond dbus hal alsa mpd)

/etc/mkinitcpio.conf HOOKS array
HOOKS="base udev pata scsi sata resume filesystems"

I've already tried all the troubleshooting tips in http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pm-utils (adding resume hook to mkinitcpio hooks array, etc) without luck. Few people with same problem around the forums, I've not found any solutions.

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: Dell Studio 17 - resume after suspend-to-ram not working.

Thanks! This describes my problem exactly.

Edit: I applied the "multibyte access to EC" patch by recompiling; kernel26, kernel26-headers, kernel26-firmware from the ABS with the patch defined in sources=() array with no luck. Screen still doesn't come on. Somebody mentioned an "archlinux patchset" in a comment with no references or links, not exactly sure what that was.

Still haven't managed to solve this. I've tried kernel26-rc 2.6.34rc6-1 with no luck. Screen still doesn't turn back on. Anyone else have this problem?

Re: Dell Studio 17 - resume after suspend-to-ram not working.

I have a Dell Studio 1555 - ATI 4570 with stock kernel26_x86_64 (2.6.33.3-1), catalyst 10.3 and all is woking ok (hibernate/suspend/restore).
The "multibyte access to EC" patch is added to stock kernel and all related problems is gone for me.
It is a problem with restore from suspend (black screen) because of catalyst 10.4, but until that problem is solved I keep catalyst 10.3.
I posted that problem here:
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=96482
If you use xf86-video-ati driver, I don't know what is the problem.
When I tested open source ati driver to see if powersave features is added, suspend/resume was working for me, but no luck with powersave features, so I stay with catalyst driver)

Re: Dell Studio 17 - resume after suspend-to-ram not working.

@mits - Thanks for the response! I'm using xf86-video-ati (open-source driver). I'll give the catalyst drivers another go. And yeah as I said in an earlier reply, I tried the multibyte access to EC patch, with no luck.

Tried the catalyst driver in the AUR, ensured framebuffer was set at 0 on the kernel line, no change.

Re: Dell Studio 17 - resume after suspend-to-ram not working.

Just try catalyst 10.3 see in wiki for pacman repos
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ATI_Catalyst
Like I say, I have no problem with catalyst 10.3. (dell 1555 - ATI 4570)
