System time keeps going off

Last time i did pacman -Syu, the rc.conf.pacnew had some changes to the time settings. Instead of America/Vancouver, it had Canada/Pacific and instead of localtime it had UTC. I thought that looked ok so I made the changes. A while later I noticed that my time was off by a few hours (right now 17:20 instead of 22:30). I googled and man'd a bit to figure out how to set the date/time with date -s and hwclock -w (is this right?). That had me satisfied for a while but then next time I booted up, time was off again. This time I concluded that the new settings were the problem so I reversed them back to localtime and vancouver. I shut down and restarted. It came up with the correct time, so I assumed it was fixed. But then the next time I used my computer (now) I noticed it was off again.

So I don't know what's up. I've done a bit of googleing and wikiing but I can't find much. Has anyone seen this? Is there some script somewhere that says "if he's not looking, reset the time"? There's probably some simple thing that I missed...

By the way, in case this is a hardware problem, I'm using a toshiba satellite 1800.

Also, if this is the wrong board, please move me.

Re: System time keeps going off

If you use UTC your operating system gets the time from your hardware clock. Maybe you should take a look at your BIOS and check the time.

Re: System time keeps going off

Did you try this: Time Skew in the "Time" wiki?

Ok this may be what I was lookign for. I just did this, we will see how well that works out.

As for the BIOS clock thing, thats the same as hwclock right?

Any other ideas or links? For when I find out that didn't work.
