mpd removes songs from playlist

It annoys me that when I go to the next song in my mpd playlist, the previous song gets removed from the playlist. Does anyone know how to get mpd to keep the previous song on the playlist?

Disable consume mode with $(mpc consume off) or your MPD client's equivalent.
