Newbie Grub Lilo Woes

been using linux for a little while and hoped to give this distro a try still a newb but I figured Arch might help learn the knitty gritty

followed the documentation to the best of my ability
trying to do the base install from cd for arch 0.7
auto prepared drive
selected and installed packages
installed the 2.6 ide kernel
looked at the grub config seemed ok so I left the defaults
installed grub to /dev/discs/disc0/disc (first option)
all went well yet upon reboot all I get is
grub>
tried same process with lilo all I get is a bunch of 01 01 01s
anyone have any ideas?

thanx in advance to anyone who is patient enough to attempt to help me

Re: Newbie Grub Lilo Woes

With Lilo it's a bit harder: you'll have to post your /etc/lilo.conf and your harddisk layout.

With grub it's easier than you think: check this out.

A bus station is where a bus stops.
A train station is where a train stops.
On my desk I have a workstation.

Re: Newbie Grub Lilo Woes

try the grub again - if you install to the MBR (the option you chose), I think you need to switch the following:

root=(hd0,0) #installed to first partition .../disc/part0
to
root=(hd0) #installed to MBR .../disc
