Mozilla have suggestions in their faq if firefox will not start. I assume you have checked those out, they include trying;
firefox -P
firefox -safe-mode
LD_PRELOAD= firefox
And many suggest to rename ~/.mozilla to say ~/mozilla-saved and trying the above In other words with an clean profile.
But seems likely there is more than one problem going on ! . I would hate to think that if firefox branded is working OK for some then maybe there is a minor problem with Arch packaging for shiretoko ? . As always i would not like to criticise any Arch package given the work/hours Arch dev's put into this distro on all our behalf.

Yeah, they say that, but it won't load here with any argument.
I really don't know what happened, what's going on ?

As a matter of interest have you tried epiphany or firefox branded ? . The PRELOAD work round is good for some but then if there is a another prob ie with arch shiretoko package then maybe trying above would determine that.

Epiphany starts OK. Both Firefox from extra and branded, won't start.
flamelab@flamepc ~ $ firefox
flamelab@flamepc ~ $ firefox -P
flamelab@flamepc ~ $ firefox -jsconsole
flamelab@flamepc ~ $LD_PRELOAD= firefox
flamelab@flamepc ~ $
It happened suddenly. The only (new) app I had installed, was gnome-do and gnome-globalmenu, just for testing.

Good job this is newbie forum cos i get stuck very quick ! . Going to add to moz bug re 2822 hits on this thread = definitive problem ! . Maybe that will help some of us - eventually. Meantime seems to me an idea for you to post an Arch bug ? .Bugs are often about finding out where the problem is and isolating any with the Arch packaging would be a good start.

Well, my problem was gnome-globalmenu
I added this to /etc/profile and firefox starts again:
export GTK_MENUBAR_NO_MAC="firefox"

Ah, thanks for the tips. I had to replace my .mozilla folder, something in it must have got corrupted. Now to put all my passwords in again.

Thank you a lot for the tip. I can finally switch back to FF 3.5. :cool:

Doh, and I manage that package, LOL. I didn't ever think to check my globalmenu config. Thanks!

Hey, I'm new in this forum, and I could get a new solution for this case.
At least for me, it was only a permission problem - my home folder was owned by root, not by 'fmgil' user.
So, I just did a simple chown:
chown -hR fmgil /home/fmgil
Which applies the ownership of all folders and subfolders to your own user. After that, you'll be able to launch applications normally.

Welcome to the boards fmgil.
