[request] NVPerfKit

NVPerfKit is a comprehensive suite of performance tools to help debug and profile OpenGL and Direct3D applications. It gives you access to low-level performance counters inside the driver and hardware counters inside the GPU itself. The counters can be used to determine exactly how your application is using the GPU, identify performance issues, and confirm that performance problems have been resolved.

http://developer.nvidia.com/object/nvperfkit_home.html

There are both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

Re: [request] NVPerfKit

I didnt see anything in the aur yet, if its still needed i got a pkgbuild for the driver. The thing is as stated another driver is needed, so one will be built for each kernel set. If you post what kernel your running i can focus on that version first.
At this point i just need to test it on my home computer, and make sure the driver actually loads.

Re: [request] NVPerfKit

All packages in AUR should assume that user don't use Testing and Unstable. Kernel modules should be built for kernel26 first, then for other kernel26* kernels if there is demand.

Re: [request] NVPerfKit

Sorry im new to arch, I based the pkgbuild off the pkgbuild for the nvidia stable drivers. So its not based on unstable. Later  tonight then i will upload the pkgbuild.

Re: [request] NVPerfKit

No need to sorry. That was just a hint. smile
You have pretty good start for a newbie. Starting to build package for AUR from the second post on forums is a good start! wink

Re: [request] NVPerfKit

Ive been using gentoo for two years and writing ebuilds here and there some Anyway thanks.

Now for the bad news, i bit off more than i can chew for my first package build. This is going to take me a bit longer than i thought, that is if i even can figure it out.

At this point going to stop on this package for  tonight, and work on it when i can.
Anyone wants to take over, you can use the pkgbuild, some refinement is needed of that.
I can explain what issues im running into.

Re: [request] NVPerfKit

OKay i got the driver done, but im confused, as to whether or not these debugging applications are in the nvperkit download file. I spent awhil looking around, and couldnt find a definite answer as to the linux version everything pertained to the windows version. Anyhow im not going to post this pkg build to aur just yet, im going to wait till i get a response on the debug applications.

make install
}

You will need to add
Option "PerformanceMonitorMode" "1"
to /etc/X11/xorg.conf

On that note any one explain how to have it echo text at the end of an install.
To reiterate this is just the driver at this point, and you cant do this in X.
Also if anyone else wants another kernel version just ask and i will take al look.,

Re: [request] NVPerfKit

I'm trying to use NVPerfGraph
http://news.developer.nvidia.com/2006/1 … fgrap.html

That pkgbuild doesn't work anymore (if it ever did).  Seems to have trouble finding include/linux/autoconf.h or include/config/auto.conf
Help?

Re: [request] NVPerfKit

Necrobump here... I'm looking to update this but am unsure about the last few lines, specifically,

###make module###
cd $startidr/src/NVPerfKit-Linux-$ARCH-beta$nvpkgver/Driver/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-$drvver-NVPerfkit/usr/src/nv
make SYSSRC=/usr/src/linux-${_kernver} module
make install

Where is the output of the make install going to go?  Shouldn't it some how point to ${pkgdir} and not to the filesystem?  Also, I would think there would need to be a line or lines to copy the output to the respective locations on the filesysem, no?

Re: [request] NVPerfKit

You'd need to test it out yourself. From memory, the last line should be something like make DESTDIR=$pkgdir install or similar.

Re: [request] NVPerfKit

Hmmm... I actually don't think this PKGBUILD is right at all... why would it replace the nvidia.ko? Can someone who knows take a look at this one?

I don't "know", but I'll wager a guess based on the description that there's some extra functionality exposed in this particular binary blob that allow the performance counters to collect their data.
